And the icing on the cake is that Jake is one of the oldest in his age division this year and one of the biggest (he grew a TON this year) so he is playing the positions that tend to take a lot of beating!
He is a fullback - the guy who runs up the middle to get those precious few yards needed. Up the middle means he is supposed to just bulldoze his way through the line - UGH! He also blocks for the running back behind him when they go around the end - and he is supposed to block BIG TIME - Joey says he is supposed to "take the other guy out" Doesn't sound good to me!
On defense he plays middle linebacker - Yuk!! Tackle Tackle Tackle! Why can't he play water boy? Or bench guy? Or something safe??
During practice they play a "Queen of the Court" like game where you have to block/push your opponent out of the circle to win. There are three circles and Jake has never moved out of the winner's circle. He takes a ton of pride at being able to block pretty well. He uses his strong little legs and Joey says he is really amazing... For Pee Wee football :) We definitely keep it all in perspective!
Here he is at the first scrimmage - it was a short one so not many pictures, but oh isn't he handsome?
And intimidating :)
He is #25 - right there in the middle...
Go, Jake, go!!
Look at him breaking through the middle like a professional! That's his arm and shoulder there... He is going after the purple guy with the ball right in front of him.
Who is that cute coach over there???
Jake's hands and forearms are huge - like my dad's! He will definitely intimidate his future daughter's boyfriends :) Look at those hands!
My guys!!
On this next play Jake is supposed to block so his running back can get through a hole. No problem! I bet here he is telling #11, "In about two seconds I am taking you down!"
And away he goes!! #11 never had a chance :)
They didn't win much last year, so this win of 21 - 0 felt really good for the kiddos - even though it was a scrimmage! Here is Jake after the game and the hand-shaking - obviously being a very gracious winner...
It was a VERY HOT day!!! And as scared as I am that someone will get hurt...it's still pretty fun to watch my guys out there!
Next week we are under the lights. Yay!!!
And on another note,
Today was picture day for Lauren at school... what a cutie-patootie.
